Claville Francis presents the cheque on behalf of the Felix family to Walter Grant-Stuart to assist with his participation at the UCI Para Cycling Road World Championship in Italy.
Differently Able cyclist Walter Grant-Stuart continues to be assisted by companies and other well-wishers for his trip to Italy to participate in the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Maniago, Italy which is expected to begin today.
Grant-Stuart has been riding for some time with success against able bodied riders in Guyana and further afield. He successfully made his debut with a win at the Union de Cycling C1 Para Cycle Road Race in Montreal, Canada in April when he competed.
On Sunday last he participated in the fifth Annual Grenville Felix Memorial Cycle Road Race in East Berbice where he placed second. After the event he was presented with a cheque for an undisclosed amount by members of the Felix family of East Canje to offset the cost of his participation in the event. This is the second year in succession that he has been presented with a special prize by members of the family who wished him all the best in his endeavor overseas.
Grant-Stuart in return promised to do his best to make all his well-wishers proud and keep the flag of Guyana flying.
He is expected to participate against riders from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Brazil, Greece, Hungry, Indonesia, Ireland, Iceland, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, USA, Venezuela, Canada, China, Columbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark Dominican Republic, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa and the Russian Federation. Grant-Stuart has been listed as an MC-5 cyclist. (Samuel Whyte)
