A good time to reflect on how much we have progressed as a nation
DEAR EDITOR,
I wish to take this opportunity to salute our African brothers and sisters on the occasion of Emancipation Day. Slavery was finally abolished in 1838 which subsequently led to the importation of other ethnic groups to replace slave labour, the majority of whom were East Indians.
This is indeed a good time to reflect on how much we have progressed as a nation since the horrible days of slavery. Our African ancestors were brought to our shores against their will and endured several hardships but in the end they managed through hard work, grit and determination to lay the foundations for a strong and cohesive society.
