Renowned gynaecologist, Dr. Gladstone Mitchell, passes on
An outstanding son of the soil has passed on.
Renowned for his work in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Gladstone Mitchell reportedly died on Monday in Jamaica after a prolonged battle with renal failure. He was 80 years old.
According to some individuals who knew him well, Dr. Mitchell was a professional in every sense of the word and will forever be remembered for his meticulous approach to health care delivery.
The simple mention of his name has been known to cause a number of women, who benefited from his service, to quickly reminisce on the excellent service he provided to them over the years.
One patient reflected on how he played an instrumental role when she was diagnosed with early stage cancer thus allowing her to receive life-saving treatment.

Over the course of his decades-long career, Dr. Mitchell functioned out of a number of private hospitals. Moreover, he certainly was no stranger to the public health sector too.
In fact, he served as the Chief Medical Officer at one point, and as a member of the Guyana Medical Association.
The Queen’s College ‘Old Boy’, also served at a number of health facilities across the Region where he also operated with distinction.
