Two friends who were on remand after being charged with the murder of Carlos Wong, got the murder charge against them discharged on Friday. They allegedly chopped Carlos Wong at Omai Landing in June 2017.
It is alleged that on June 9, last year, at Omai Landing, Essequibo, Dwayne Washington, 25, and Dorwayne Hollingsworth, 22, both of Phase One, Wismar, Linden, murdered Carlos Wong.
They were not required to plead to the charge after it was read to them.
Attorney-at-Law Dexter Todd, who represented the defendants, had argued that the essential elements to constitute the offence of murder were not established.
The Magistrate in coming to his ruling told the court that the prosecution has significantly failed to establish a case against the defendants. Thus they were both discharged for the capital offence of murder.
According to reports, Wong, 46, a miner of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, died after he was chopped on the right hand at Omai Landing, Essequibo on June 9, last year.
Wong and two men were involved in a heated argument over a water pump, when one of them armed with a cutlass, chopped the miner on his hand.
The lawyer had always argued that his clients did not commit the offence.
According to the lawyer, it is alleged that someone saw Wong stealing the pump and escaping before jumping into a river. The lawyer added that his clients were only arrested since they were the last persons who saw Wong alive.
