The Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Cricket Club will hold its Cricket Camp from August 7-19 at the Club’s ground on the East Coast of Demerara which carters for young Children on the East Coast, but for the Camp to be a success sponsorship is urgently needed.
President of the Club Esse Peters says this Cricket Camp held during the school vacation has been running for last 12 years but because of a down turn in the economy, the club has only managed to secure two sponsors so far.
“We are going ahead with this because we feel it is a good thing for the youth them to stay out of trouble by having something positive to do now school is closed,” said Peters.
Buxton is one of the strongest teams on the East Coast and has produced former National U-19 all-rounder Clive Andries who is one of the leading all-rounders in East Coast cricket although he is finding more success as a National Footballer.
“Clive is one of the top performers on the East Coast but despite him being selected for the GCB East Coast Franchise team, he continues to be an inspiration to the other payers here,” Peters disclosed.
“Buxton is sometimes unfairly seen as Village of only bad things and with camps like these we are trying to change the image of Buxton. This camp will teach the youths them to play together, have discipline and respect and Cricket skills and we are begging for help to make our Camp a success this year,” said Peters.
According to Peters the Club has written to several companies and also to the Guyana Cricket Board for sponsorship but have not gotten a response as yet. (Sean Devers)
