RHTYSC Vice President Mark Papannah hands over sponsorship Cheque to Dr. Cecil Beharry, BCB Treasurer.
The Berbice Cricket Board on Saturday last launched the 2nd Edition of the Patron’s Green Economy Trophy with sponsorship from the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS. Vice President of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS Mark Papannah handed over a Cheque to Berbice Cricket Board Treasurer Dr. Cecil Beharry for the hosting of the Tournament which would be held in honour of President David Granger’s 73rd Birthday. The President is the Honourary Patron of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS and the tournament would also be used to educate Berbicians on the impact of Climate Change.
Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who is also the President of the Berbice Cricket Board, stated that the Club has received the blessings of President Granger for the Tournament and would also be hosting the Patron’s Fund. Under the Patron’s Fund, distribution of cycles, school bags, exercise books and cricket bats would be shared out to students and young cricketers as part of the birthday celebration. The Tournament would be organised by the Competitions Committee under the Chairmanship of Robby Saywack.
The Tournament would be played during the week and would be one hundred balls per innings. The teams would be West Berbice, Blairmont, Police Tucber Park, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Canje, Albion, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne and Skeldon. The Tournament would be played on a Knock-out basis, while the winner would take home $150,000, while the first, second and third runner-ups would get $75,000, $50,000 and $25,000 respectively. President David Granger, the Ministry of the Presidency, Minister Joseph Harmon and Bakewell have all contributed to the successful hosting of the Tournament.
The Berbice Cricket Board, Foster stated would work hard to make the Tournament a success and issued an appeal for all eleven teams to start preparations. Berbice Cricket Board Treasurer Dr. Cecil Beharry expressed gratitude to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for its sponsorship of the Tournament and expressed confidence that the Tournament would be well organised. The current Executives of the Berbice Cricket Board, he stated is totally committed to the development of Cricket in the Ancient County and hailed the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club as a true friend of Berbice Cricket.
