The highly anticipated Heineken Golf tournament will finally take place this Saturday July 28th at 12:30 pm as the grounds crew work feverishly to bring the course into top playing condition for the grand event.
Unexpected rainfall last week left golfers chomping at the bit as the tournament was postponed at the very last minute. However, with good weather expected all week, it is certain that all the top players including defending 8-time Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud, former 2-time Guyana Open Ladies Champion Dr. Joann Deo, Lusignan Open Champion Papo Haniff, 2018 Club Champion Points Leaders Aleem Hussain, Patrick Prasad, Ian Gouveia, Kassim Khan, Richard Hanif, Paton George and strong challengers from Team Banks DIH, Team Scotia Bank, Team Crown Mining, and Team Macorp will be among those vying for the top honors as Heineken puts on its usual display of hospitality.
Ansa Mcal is the distributor of Heineken, a global leading beer brand and has been a staunch supporter of the Lusignan Golf course and the game for more than a decade, and Brand Manager Darshanie Yussef has pledged the company’s continued involvement in the years ahead.
Darshanie Yussef, Brand Manager for Heineken who has been with the company for more than 8 years, expressed her satisfaction at the growth of the game and the interest it has drawn in recent months. “Golf has become the talk of the town and with the addition of free lessons for beginners and summer programmes for children we feel that golf will dominate the sports landscape in the years ahead.”
Current President of the LGC, Aleem Hussain, and members of the Executive committee expressed their continued gratitude to Ansa Mcal, long-time corporate sponsor and active members of the LGC and stated that without the support of Managing Director Troy Cadogan a lot of the plans for 2018 would not have been possible.
Trophies for the top two players in each category along with prizes for Best Gross score, Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive (which Managing Director Troy Cadogan is a strong contender) will be up for grabs and a variety of prizes will be available for players and spectators through-out the event.
Gates open at 12:30pm and the public is urged to join the great atmosphere with the Heineken Team who will be on hand to encourage the players, give away prizes, promote Heineken drink specials all day long and to make sure that everyone has a grand time.

Meanwhile, the Lusignan Open will return to the LGC after more than 25 years and will feature the top players in Guyana over a 2 day period on August 4-5. There is some amazing young talent who will compete this year and it is expected to be a test of mettle in preparation for the international competition, the Guyana Open scheduled for November 3-4, 2018 will unfold.
Defending Champion Papo Haniff will be on hand to defend the title won more than 25 years ago but will face tough competition from current 8-time Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud and the youthful winner of the 2018 Caddies Tournament amongst others.
The event will feature a cocktail party on August 3 and all are invited.
