Coordinator Lennox Arthur informed that the teams can uplift the rules of the competition from him, stating that only clubs and players affiliated to their respective associations will be allowed to participate. He noted that the rules of the Guyana Football Federation would be fully enforced and teams and players must take note.
Arthur, the former National football player and Coach, informed that they have gotten the green light from the GFF and all systems are a go for preparation for the event. He said they (the organising committee) are in the process of soliciting sponsorship for the tournament and welcomed the support of the business community. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sponsors who have supported in the past and expressed the desire that they will continue same for this 2018 edition.
This tournament has been played for the last 24 years in recognition of former Prime Minister and elder statesman Hamilton Green for his contribution over the years to sports.
In actuality, the tournament was held under the Mayor’s Cup banner 30 years ago when Mr. Green served as Mayor of Georgetown. Green is an avid sports enthusiast and sportsman himself. But his help to athletes and organisations over the years has been noteworthy.
Arthur encouraged sponsors to lend support as the local football talent come to the fore in this tournament.
