Jul 22, 2018 Letters
Dear Editor,
I read with keen interest a letter that appeared in your newspaper on Sunday 15th July, 2018, captioned “Government Failing the Hindus”. The letter was a well-orchestrated attempt by Hindus from different parts of the country to call on the Government and the President to rescue the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha from the illegal cabal that has hijacked its operations.
Editor, based on the things mentioned in that letter, I sought to gather information on the situation that has allegedly been suffocating the Maha Sabha for several years. Upon doing so, I was heartbroken to learn that an organization such as the Maha Sabha has been continuously neglected by this Government and the previous administration! Editor, many person who are aware of their history, knows the important place the Maha Sabha held in the hearts of Guyanese across this country, from advocating on behalf of Indo-Guyanese in times of hardship to settling and maintaining brotherhood amongst all races, the Maha Sabha has fought endlessly alongside politicians and religious leaders to build a nation born out of colonialism so that we the sons of this soil can enjoy the peace and prosperity we now do. It’s is therefore sad to know Editor, that such a prestigious organization, one that should be protected and upheld by the government is being ignored and left in the hands of a few self serving and power hungry persons, who only seek to fill their own pockets with whatever little the organization has to offer.
I further learnt Editor, that the current executive body of the Maha Sabha has been in place from since 1995 and has continued function without holding general meetings or by- elections within the organization. A check at the high court will reveal that several times members of the organization would’ve petitioned the said executive to hold an election but this was never carried out due to a few rouge members filing several injunctions and court orders to halt any such move! This goes to show Editor, that these executive members do wish to bring the Maha Sabha to conformity with its by- Laws and will use any means whatsoever to remain in power so that they can continue to drain the coffers of the organization. Now, isn’t this enough evidence to warrant the intervention of the Government?
Since taking office in 2015, the Granger Administration has peddled the notion of social cohesion and the promise to support all religion and religious organisations that promote such, but in my humble opinion, Mr. Editor. The Government of this country has no concern for its Hindu populace nor can it claim otherwise because the Maha Sabha represents all Hindus and by ignoring the problems of the Maha Sabha inevitably, you are ignoring the Hindus of this country!
It is time to stop the nonsense that has been ongoing at the Maha Sabha and look into affairs of the illegal cabal that calls themselves “executives members”! The harshest of penalties should he handed to these persons for depriving Guyanese of the benefits that the Maha Sabha has to offer to the poor and less fortunate of this country! Take warning, it is written in our scripture that one can run and escape the wrath of men but beware, one cannot run and hide from the wrath of God!
Long live the Maha Sabha!
Yours respectfully,
Rickram Rishikesh.
