A 40-year-old Mason and part time shoemaker was Friday remanded to prison for the murder of his friend and drinking buddy.
Vivian ‘Jerry’ Ross, of Lot 58 Bulletwood Street, Rose Hall Town, stood before Magistrate Renita Singh, at the Albion Magistrate Court as the charge was read to him. It is alleged that Ross on July 13, 2018 at Rose Hall Town, murdered Wayne Sundar Singh, called ‘Wayno’, 43. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He also told the court that it was his first offence.
His attorney, Murseline Bacchus, requested from the Magistrate that statements be disclosed at his next appearance. Ross was remanded to prison until July 31, 2018 when the statements would be made available.
A villager had ventured to the home of Singh where he resides with his mother at Rose Hall Town and informed her that Singh was lying on the road unconscious, just a street away. Singh’s sisters retreated to the location, brought him back home and subsequently made arrangements to transport him to the hospital.
A short while later, Singh succumbed at the New Amsterdam Hospital but relatives had noticed apparent marks of violence about his body with a visibly swollen head and swollen mouth that was also bleeding.
He also allegedly had bruises and black and blue marks to his right and left side rib area.
Ross was arrested with two others but during his time in custody, he admitted to hitting Singh. He told detectives that he, Singh and others were imbibing in alcohol and an argument erupted. The argument turned physical and he dealt the deceased a cuff to the face that caused him to fall to the ground, hitting his head in the process.
The post mortem results had also revealed that Singh died from severe haemorrhage caused by blunt trauma to the head. The examination was conducted by government Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Bridgemohan on July 17, 2018.
