DEAR EDITOR,
One of the things about which Guyanese can rest assured as a consequence of the numerous drug busts in North America and Europe, which originated from Guyana during the PPP’s tenure, is that Guyana is under the microscope of the anti-narcotics organizations of these countries. Further, based on evidence in our press and what they might have been able to garner themselves, the governments and anti-narcotics organizations of these countries are very likely satisfied that successive administrations up to 2015 aided and abetted the transshipment of narcotics through Guyana.
The People’s Progressive Party therefore very probably has no support from the ABCs and Europe as a political organization in Guyana, and I would go so far as to say that like myself, they consider the PPP a criminal entity as a result of its association with, and desire to benefit from the movement of narcotics through Guyana’s borders.
I have mentioned before that the People’s National Congress’ declared intention to remain steadfast to Burnham’s ideas of national development holds nothing but the promise of more economic mismanagement and rigged elections going forward, as it is becoming clear that the coalition under the PNC’s leadership has set Guyana back on a course for economic stagnation and punishment of our people. The party’s questionable approach to installing individuals who give reason to question the integrity of our electoral system is a clear indication if any that it is buckling down for another twenty-eight years of tyranny.
Congress Place has always been unwilling to confront the failures of Burnham’s policies in the face of all available evidence. If anything, this is confirmation that they know no better, and cannot, and will not offer anything but his backward notions and notorious tyranny post-2020.
We have to understand that in our increasingly globalized world we can ill-afford the time to marginalize each other as is done by our traditional political parties while in government. We should instead be more concerned with securing investment from abroad and generating increased incomes and wealth for ourselves by diversifying our productive base and increasing foreign currency inflows through increased exports.
It seems a foregone conclusion that the support the coalition acquired from other than traditional PNC supporters at the 2015 elections will be lost in 2020. In the current unfolding environment of economic mismanagement by the Coalition Administration and the shut-out of the clearly ineligible PPP in 2020 as a result of the increasing likelihood of a rigged election, does anyone have a more proactive, workable response than my proposal of establishing an alternative political party through which we can all commit to building a strong government come 2020?
Because, like it or not, neither the Americans nor the British, or even our Canadian friends, will come to our rescue after 2020.
Yours faithfully,
Craig Sylvester
