It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but the hangover that came after for one West Demerara man is causing a major headache.
The President of the West Demerara Road Safety Association, Peter Katahan, is now before the courts after an unregistered car he is said to own was found with two crown emblems, similar to that used in the number plate area on the President’s cars.
According to police on Tuesday, the Nissan car with the illegal crowns affixed was used to take persons to a wedding.
Apparently somebody reported Katahan. He was charged and released on bail on Tuesday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, West Bank Demerara. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on a total bail of $40,000 on two charges and the matters were transferred to the Leonora court for August 13.
According to police, the defendant, 43, is also a Rural Sergeant, in addition to being the President of the West Demerara Road Safety Association.
The charges included the fraudulent imitation of identification mark, and driving an unregistered, unlicensed, uncertified and uninsured motor vehicle.
The offences were reportedly committed last Sunday at Hubu, East Bank Demerara.
