A 12-member mixed jury was yesterday empanelled to decide on the evidence in the trial of Sudesh Rambhajue who is charged with attempting to murder Latchman Narine Persaud.
Rambhajue, who had no legal representation appeared before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the High Court in Georgetown. Particulars of the first charge against him alleged that on September 18, 2015, he unlawfully wounded Persaud, with intent to murder him.
Additionally, Prosecutors Tiffiny Lyken, Seeta Bishundial and Narissa Leander presented an alternate indictment against Rambhajue. That charge alleged that on the same day, he wounded Persaud with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, or to maim, disable or disfigure him.
Both offences occurred in the County of Demerara. Rambhajue pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Justice Reynolds granted him until next week Monday to retain a lawyer. His trial is also expected to commence then.
The attempted murder accused is out on bail.
