Authorities have issued a wanted bulletin for a Mon Repos man who they believe had a hand in an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs into the country over the weekend.
According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), its officers want to talk to Farouk Baksh called “Dive and Shoot”.
Baksh, a boat captain, reportedly escaped during operations by law enforcement officials at the Mon Repos channel area on Saturday morning.
His last known addresses were given as 91 Pump Road, Mon Repos, and 254 North Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
“Anyone knowing his whereabouts is kindly asked to make contact with CANU HQ – 227-3507, 226-0431,” the unit appealed yesterday.
Meanwhile, another Mon Repos man, Azim Baksh called “Bato” will be presented before the Sparendaam Magistrate Court this morning for the narcotics seized Saturday.
Over the weekend, CANU said the unit detained a Good Hope, East Coast Demerara couple after intercepting a massive cocaine and marijuana shipment at Mon Repos Channel, East Coast Demerara. The bust happened at around 04:00 hrs Saturday.
A CANU release said that the operatives seized 82 parcels of cocaine weighing 91.132 kilogrammes and 98 parcels of cannabis weighing 56.008 kilogrammes after intercepting a vessel.
Baksh of 123 Phase 1 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, and his wife, were taken into custody.
The boat captain escaped while the ranks were closing in.
Several other persons of interest, including Venezuelans, are also at large.
The release had stated that during the early morning hours, CANU ranks had conducted an operation on the East Coast of Demerara where several locations used for docking of fishing vessels along the East Coast Seawall were reconnoitered.
