Dear Editor,
It is difficult to comprehend Minister Broomes’s assertion, “I feel disrespected and I feel targeted” in the Chronicle, on account of her escapades at the New Thriving diner at Providence. Did Broomes feel disrespected because the two guards were released?
To get a conviction in Court, evidence has to be provided. It seems that Miss Broomes is of the opinion that by virtue of being a Minister of Government her evidence should not be required to stand the scrutiny of corroboration from any other sources.
The CCTV footage revealed that no one had pointed any gun at the Minister. It is human to err but to bear false witness against anyone is contrary and condemned by all the Holy Books. Whether it was the Minister or her security personnel who reported that a security guard had pointed a gun on the Minister-the footage revealed that no such criminality occurred.
The public would like to see an investigation to determine who made the report and charges be laid against that person. Cameras don’t lie–people do! It would be fitting that someone be charged for making false allegation against a security guard.
The Minister said, “I feel targeted”. Was the Minister attempting to insinuate that some person or persons are, or were trying to harm her? Had the Minister made a report to the police of her suspicion prior to this incident? Based on the footage I saw-the only things that seemed targeted were a security guard by an SUV and two “No Parking” signs by a person of stature similar to the Minister, who came out from the back, side door of the vehicle (SUV) and push them to the ground.
Speaking of the incident, the Minister added, “I want to say to the Guyanese public that I was no threat or anything at all; it is just regrettable. I am really saddened and taken aback by it. It was uncalled for.
“What was “uncalled for”? Was it KN putting the video online or is it the part where the public perceived the person pushing down the “no parking signs” to be her or is it because someone solicited the police to arrest the guards by making a false allegation? The public needs some clarity!
Minister Broomes said, “I was not abusive”. Surely! If those “no parking signs” at New Thriving could have spoken, they may have told a different story.
She added, “Since I took office I really continue to humble myself to serve the people of this country”. Is this a confession that she is aware of having attitude issues in the past? I do hope that Broomes does not by any means suggest that the public has short memory and as such, had forgotten her academy award winning “Boom out” selfie that she performed in parliament to grace the presence of opposition leader Jagdeo.
If that was humbling in anyway, I feel tempted to recheck my dictionary on “humble”! The public views her Providence escapades as “Boom Out” part two for food.
This is nothing new to the public. They had experienced this kind of depravity at the hands of some PPP ministers. There was a feral blast on an outgoing US Ambassador by a Minister of Education; a Minister of Health wanting to slap political activist Miss Sharlina Nageer, another Minister on a drunken spree, threatening to shoot someone -just to name a few.
The presidency of the PPP never attempted to set a precedent to stop these calamitous behaviours by demanding the resignation of any of its Ministers. To envision Granger breaking away from the orthodoxy of past presidents in dealing with psychopathic ministers would be looking for a mirage.
None of the errant Ministers from the PPP ranks had ever apologized. Don’t expect an apology from Broomes.
