After leaving his home on Thursday to spend time with his friends in Rose Hall Town, a 43-year-old painter of Lot 316 Swamp Section, Rose Hall Town, was found unconscious with apparent marks of violence about his body, relatives claim. He succumbed at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
They believe that he was beaten and left to die since that was the information they received. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the man’s death.
Dead is Wayne Sundarsingh called ‘Wayno’. His devastated mother, Murti Sundarsingh, said that her son who lives with her, left on Thursday to spend some time with his friends a street away. According to her, a young man from the village came to her house yesterday morning around 2:00 am and informed her that her son was unresponsive on the street.
“The bai come and seh how he (Wayne) deh with he head twist pon the road and how dem na know wha do he. He sehe dem put he fa sit down. He come with meh son bicycle and tell we fa leh we go and collect he because he na want dem people seh meh son dead in front he place”, the woman explained. She added that her son-in-law retreated to the location where her son was found. The injured man was brought back to her house but he was reportedly in a “terrible state”.
She stated that she noticed that his mouth was swollen and bleeding while the left side of his head was swollen as well. They immediately made contact with the Rose Hall police outpost.
The police arrived and transported the unconscious man to the Port Mourant Hospital, which later transferred him to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Murti stated that at both institutions the doctors told her that he was “too far gone and dem can’t do nothing”.
Not giving up, the woman said that they took him to the Fort Wellington Hospital and the doctors immediately began to work on the injured man but they too stated that he may not make it. He was subsequently sent back to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he succumbed.
The dead man’s mother said that she noticed that her son had black and blue marks to his left and right sides leaving her to conclude that he was allegedly beaten.
“He was bleeding from his mouth and he face swell up. Somebody beat he; that is not no fall down. If he bin fall down he na wudda get all dem injuries. He got two things at he two side like somebody beat he”, the woman stressed.
According to a senior police rank the man “fell and hit his head. He was a heavy drinker and he was drinking with his friends”. He confirmed that three persons are in police custody and will remain detained until a post mortem examination is conducted to determine the cause of death. (By Malisa Playter Harry)
