Defending Champions of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite league, Guyana Defence Force Football Club (GDF FC) bounced back to their winning ways after going down 3-0 to Den Amstel FC last week with a 3-0 victory of their own against bottom of the league table, New Amsterdam United FC.
Jeffrey Pereira (12th minute) and Cedric Osborne (31st minute) had the army men comfortably ahead at the end of the first half before Delroy Fraser netted in the 66th minute to secure the 3-0 victory at the National Track and Field Center (NTFC) at Leonora.
In the opening match, East Coast Demerara based Victoria Kings overcame a 3-1 deficit against Linden’s Milerock to eventually win 5-3. At the 45 minute break, Milerock’s Keon Sears had buried two goals with Nickosi Denny’s strike in the 41st minute keeping Victoria Kings in the game.
On resumption of play, left winger Aubrey Gibson rifled in a second half hat-trick to go along with Azuma Roberts stoppage time strike which helped the Kings to reach a finally tally of five goals.
Shortly after the first half, Brentsley Allicock scored to take Milerock’s lead to 3-1 but the team along with the fans from the mining town would’ve been extremely disappointed that they couldn’t hold on after being in such a comfortable position.
A triple header is set tonight at the NTFC from 16:00hrs. Ann’s Grove will play second place Fruta Conquerors, followed by Milerock versus Guyana Defence Force at 18:00hrs with the feature match involving the in-form Den Amstel FC and Buxton United.
Admission to the venue is $500; women and children under 12 years are free.
