Skipper Shaquan Favourite whose lone strike was enough to put his team, North Ruimveldt, into the boys’ final.
One finalist each for the girls’ and boys’ respective finals of the ExxonMobil schools football tournament has been decided after play concluded yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
Through are Charlestown Secondary in the girls’ division and North Ruimveldt Multilateral in the boys’ division. Charlestown clashed with New Cambellville Secondary for a grueling hour (30 minutes per half) before the match was decided from the penalty spot which Charlestown clinched 4-3.
In the lone boys’ semifinal match, a successful free kick from Skipper Shaquan Favourite in the 23rd minute was enough to see his team, North Ruimveldt, needle St. John’s College 1-0 in the final game of the afternoon.
Earlier, Vergenoegen trounced Dolphin Secondary 4-1 in their girls’ 5th-8th plate match, while Uitvlugt gained a walkover from Tucville in their respective girls’ plate match up.
Vergenoegen Secondary were twice lucky yesterday as the school’s boys’ team prevailed 4-3 over Dolphin from the penalty spot following a 1-1 drawn match in their 5th-8th plate encounter.
This Tuesday at the same venue, the remaining semifinal matches will be played from 15:00hrs. Those games will see East Ruimveldt Secondary versus South Ruimveldt in the girls’ semi, which will be contested first, followed by the feature match between Chase Academic Foundation and Buxton Youth Developers at 16:00hrs.
The finals are set for this Saturday.
