Defending champions River View immediately established that they are in no mood to accommodate pretenders to their throne after registering an emphatic 5-1 triumph over Might Rulers in the penultimate game on opening night of the Bartica Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition.
They were led to victory through a Guinness goal from Godfrey Norton which came in the 20th minute, while single strikes from Shaquille Hopkinson-13th, Andel Norton-15th and Romario Lake in the 17th completed their tally.
Devon Elias’ 11th minute effort was the lone response for Mighty Rulers.
Also displaying impressive form was Goal Raiders who defeated Goal Impact 3-0 with Brian Browne netting a Guinness goal in the 19th minute, while Sherwin DaSilva opened their account in the 5th.
In the first game, Street Kings evaded Hard Tackles to secure a narrow 1-0 win, Seon Ferrier the lone marksman following his 6th minute effort.
Almanac Kings then dispatched SML 2-0 with Ricardo Pereira firing in a brace in the 2nd and 14th minutes respectively.
In what was clearly the most exciting game of the night, Potaro Strikers outlasted Algatash 3-2 to advance.
On target for the winners was Ron Smith, who netted in the 10th and 13th minutes, while Kurt Spencer added the other in the 7th.
Andrew Simons scored a pair for Algatash in the 3rd and 6th minutes.
Play in the tournament was expected to resume last evening.
The national playoffs are set to be staged on July 27 and August 1, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac and Haslington Market Square respectively, while the final will be played on August 4, at the National Stadium, Providence.
