The American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) is a non-profit organization and independent association formed in 1986 by business people in the United States (U.S).
The main objective of the Chamber is to promote investment and trade between the United States, and around the world via networks unique to AMCHAM.
The Chamber has been and will continue to be the most influential voice of U.S. businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean.
At present AMCHAM has set up office here to promote trade and business between the United States and Guyana. US Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway, announced last week that the first ever official American Chamber of Commerce will begin operations in Guyana soon.
Commenting on the matter, Ambassador Holloway noted that the initiative will help “our two countries in the area of trade especially since Guyana is readying for oil production in 2020.”
According to information contained in a brochure, AMCHAM Guyana’s purpose is “to promote America-Guyana trade and business, create new business opportunities and improve market access for America-Guyana goods and services, provide economic, social and policy platforms.
It will also encourage networking and build valuable business connections, further American business interests in Guyana as well as promote mutually beneficial business relations and partnerships as well as promote corporate social responsibility and sustainable development in Guyana.
If business persons have questions about joining, AMCHAM Guyana says that it affords its members numerous benefits.
“Many join to enhance community goodwill; others join for the innumerable services and privileges they may expect from the chamber.
Most companies join AMCHAMs to meet people, make business connects, access new opportunities and exchange information useful to their business.
Providing an array of services to members, business persons can expect events that provide opportunities to network and contacts, transfer knowledge while promoting business.
At present, the board comprises a representative from each of the 16 companies including ExxonMobil Guyana, Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd, Marriott Guyana, Queens Atlantic Investment Inc., Corum Group Guyana, GTT, Sol Guyana, Nabi and Sons Ltd, Red Entertainment, London House Chambers, Baker Hughes, Republic Bank, the National Milling Company of Guyana Inc. (NAMILCO), RAMPS Logistics, Massy Guyana Inc., and Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP).
Queens Atlantic Investment is the Corporate Secretary of AMCHAM Guyana.
The chamber is open for membership from both foreign and local companies and entrepreneurs with business activities in Guyana.
