One month after a former policeman was charged with breaking into a woman’s house and carting off $1M in goods; he was yesterday arrested at the City Court and taken into custody after a woman saw him with a phone that belongs to her.
Imran Khan, 25, of 177-53 Second Avenue, Westminister, West Bank Demerara was seated in Senior Magistrate Leron Daly’s courtroom awaiting statements in his matter when the woman observed him with the phone.
The woman immediately reported the matter to the officer-in-charge at the court and Khan was arrested and placed in custody.
The officers then searched Khan and the phone was found in his possession. The woman was then showed the phone and she told the officers that it belongs to her.
A few minutes later, ranks from the Ruimveldt Police Station showed up and took Khan into their custody. An investigation is being conducted.
Last month, Khan made an appearance before Magistrate Leron Daly where two charges were read to him.
It is alleged that on May 22 last at Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Natasha Himchand and stole $500,000 in cash and other articles valuing $1.3M.
It is also alleged that Khan, on May 26 last, at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, assaulted Lance Corporal 18437 Mark Moses, a peace officer acting in the execution of his duties.
He is currently out on $130,000 bail for those offences.
