The fifth annual New Era/Mohamed’s Enterprise futsal tournament was launched yesterday at Mohamed’s Enterprise office on Lombard Street. This year, ExxonMobil has signed on as one of the major sponsors of the tournament which is competed in the ‘mining town’ of Linden.
There will be over $2Million in cash and prizes up for grabs in the competition that will be played at Mackenzie Hard Court over seven nights beginning July 27th with the grand finale set for August 18.
The winners of the tournament, which has already seen some 20 teams from Linden, Georgetown and the West Side registering, will pocket the grand cash prize of $600,000, while second place finishers will receive $250,000, third $100,000 and fourth $75,000.
Nazar Mohamed, CEO of the main sponsor; Mohamed’s Enterprise, during his remarks at the press brief explained that, “It’s really an honour for Mohamed’s Enterprise to be a part of this New Era Futsal family. We would appreciate having football played in the right spirit. We are always part of sport with support of the Kashif and Shanghai tournament for over 25 years and we will continue to be part of sport for years to come.”
Rawle Adams, secretary of the Guyana Futsal Association expressed his and the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) blessings in having the tournament competed. Adams complimented the organisers and the sponsors for their role in making the event a success, five years running.
