Bakewell, VNet, Minister Harmon supports Patron’s Green Economy Tourney and Fund

The Rose Hall Ton Youth & Sports club, MS has received the blessing of President David Granger to host the 2nd Edition of the Patron’s Green Economy Trophy and Patron’s Fund in honour of his 73rd Birthday. The Green Economy Tournament would be played under the banner of the Berbice Cricket Board, while the Rose Hall Ton Youth & Sports Club, MS would organise the Patron’s Fund. The organisers would be using the Cricket Tournament to promote President Granger’s Green Economy Message across the Ancient County under the Patron’s Fund, less fortunate youths would benefit from donations of bicycles, exercise books, school bags and cricket bats.
Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster along with Vice President Mark Papannah, Organising Secretary Ravindranauth Kissoonlall and Asst Secretary Simon Naidu are spearheading the organising of the events to honour the Club’s Patron on his Birthday. Last year, the Club organised a very successful first edition of the Patron’s Green Economy Tournament, while millions of dollars’ worth of cricket balls, school bags, bicycles and exercise books were shared out to thousands of youths and several cricket clubs in the Ancient County.
Foster, who is also the President of the Berbice Cricket Board, stated that the cricket tournament would be played under the banner of the Berbice Cricket Board as one of its First Division Tournaments and would be organised by its Competitions Committee and its Special Events Committee. Eleven First Division Teams including West Berbice, Blairmont, Police, Young Warriors, Tucber Park, Albion, Rose Hall Canje, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports club, Port Mourant, Skeldon and Upper Corentyne would participate. Prizes would be announced shortly, while play would start as soon as the weather improves.
On Wednesday last the first sets of donations were received for the tournament and the Patron’s Fund. Minister of State Joseph Harmon handed over a personal donation of $125,000. Bakewell donated $150,000, while CEO of VNet Communication Safraz Sherrifudeen handed funds to purchase ten cycles that would be donated to less fortunate students. The Ministry of the Presidency has also committed itself to provide trophies and stand the cost of Umpiring for the entire Tournament.
CEO of VNet Communication Safraz Sherrifudeen stated that his Company was delighted to assist the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS and more importantly to make sure that President Granger has a special 73rd Birthday present. The cycles, he stated would assist less fortunate students to attend school and obtain an education. General Manager of Bakewell, Rajin Ganga expressed his pleasure at being able to be part of the Green Economy Tournament.
