On the third day of action at the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Junior Championships at the Liguanea Club in Kingston, Jamaica only 14-year-old Shomari Wilshire who successfully defended his Boys U-15 title and U-13 Michael Alphonso won Gold Medals for Guyana, while Abosaide Cadogan had to settle for Silver in the individual Category.
The South Americans lost three of the six play-off games on Tuesday but produced a much better performance yesterday when the team event began by beating the OECS in the Boys division, while the Girls got the better of the Cayman Islands with both teams winning by 4-1 margins.
Guyana’s Michael Alphonso, fresh off a Gold Medal performance the previous day, dominated Jaydon Williams 11-2 11-2 11-3, while Rithew Saywack beat Mikhail Quashie 11-0 11-4 11-3 and double defending U-15 Champions Shomari Wiltshire won by Walkover after the OECS opponent failed to show up.
Guyana’s only loss came when Daniel Islam was defeated by Kai Bentick 4-11 3-11 5-11.
Alexander Cheeks beat Mikal Quashie 11-8 11-13 11-8 12-10.
In the Girls division Abosaide Cadogan beat Shaelah Henry 11-3 11-2 11-4, team Captain Rebecca Low got the better of Emma Turnbull 11-5 15-13 11-5 and Kirsten Gomes won a hard fought game against Kali Maclean 11-4 10-12 11-9 6-11.
