A man who is known to the police was yesterday sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment by a City Magistrate after he was found sleeping on a bed and wearing a pair of stolen sneaker.
Forty-eight-year-old Paul Narine appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer a break and enter and larceny charge.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, which read that between July 6 and July 8, at Lot 31 Ketley Street, Charlestown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Onika Sandiford and stole two gas cylinders valued $20,000 and other articles totalling $70,000.
Police Prosecutor, Quinn Harris, told the court that on July 6, last, at about 18:30 hrs, the victim secured her home and went out.
Upon her return on July 8, she discovered several wooden bars from her home missing. She made checks around her home.
The court heard that when the woman checked her room, she saw the defendant sleeping on her bed with her mother’s pair of sneakers on his feet. The woman then went and reported the matter to the police who dispatched a rank to her home.
Narine was then arrested by the rank who told him of the offence. “She left the f#*king garage open so I went in the house,” he told the arresting rank.
He was then arrested and taken into custody.
The man in addressing the court stated, “She too damn ‘lierd’; she get back all her stuff. I don’t know why she standing here. I would just hit her because is not even her house. It’s her mother’s house.”
The man went on to tell the court that he had all right to sleep on the bed because no one was at home.
Magistrate Latchman then asked Narine why he was in the victim’s house and he told the court that he went there to sleep.
