Top police officials have launched an investigation into allegations that a senior rank and others tampered with evidence in the recent bizarre death of a young woman.
The investigators are focusing on allegations that the injuries that resulted in the young woman’s demise occurred in a city house, and not in the area where some ranks and the accused claimed that they had. The probe is also focusing on allegations that forensic evidence at what may be the real crime scene might have been ‘painted over’.
The allegations have reportedly led to several detectives visiting the house where the young woman lived. Kaieteur News understands that Crime Chief Paul Williams and other ranks have been notified of the developments.
The investigation is reportedly being spearheaded by a rank from the Brickdam Police Station.
Kaieteur News confirmed that the allegations were made by the young woman’s mother. She told Kaieteur News yesterday that she had visited her daughter’s residence and seen police remove a window curtain with what appeared to be bloodstains.
The woman said that subsequently, she and some family members accidentally brushed against a bedroom wall and realised that it was freshly painted.
The woman said that she subsequently notified Crime Chief Williams of her suspicions. An investigation was immediately launched, with ranks visiting the home and taking several photographs.
Yesterday, the victim’s mother provided Kaieteur News of photographs which she said raised suspicion of a cover-up.
One of the photographs showed the woman’s hand covered with fresh paint, which she said came from the area in the bedroom here she believed her daughter was injured.
Describing herself as “a Christian,” the victim’s mother said that she was not out for revenge against the man who has been implicated in her daughter’s death.
“All I want is justice.”
