The Department of Education Region Four has reached out to the parents of the late 14 year old Timothy Robinson and ten year old Timothy Yearwood, who drowned on Monday July 2.
The intervention was done by Regional Education Officer (ag), (REDO) Ms. Tiffany Favourite-Harvey and Regional Executive Officer (REO), Ms Pauline Lucas.
Robinson’s body was recovered on Tuesday in a fisherman’s net at Hope, while Yearwood’s body was recovered on Thursday at Buxton. Robinson and Yearwood were students of Lancaster Secondary and Gibson Primary respectively had reportedly disappeared while at the seawalls with other boys.
The department provided the families with food and household items, while the Department of Education Region Four, through its welfare department, visited both homes where the REDO and REO expressed their condolences.
They also gave words of encouragement that would enable the grieving family to cope during this evidently difficult period.
“This is shock to all of us at the Department of Education as this is the last thing we would want to occur, more so, at the end of the school term,” Harvey said.
She noted that several teachers and students at the schools of both boys are exceptionally distraught and she hopes that those who were severely affected would find the courage and will power to be strong.
“We are all hurting but I firmly believe that in memory of both boys who coincidentally have the same name but are cousins we should remain strong, as one of their common qualities was that they were strong, determined, and very disciplined boys and we should be strong in emulating their qualities,” she said.
Both Lucas and Favourite-Harvey expressed sadness both as mothers and officers of the region.
They urged the mothers to find solace in the fond memories of their respective sons.
