On Tuesday, Chartered Accountant, Chris Ram received a Certificate for the Masters of Laws in Oil and Gas at a graduation ceremony in the Great Hall of Reading University in England.
Reading is one of the foremost research-led universities in the United Kingdom with 36 research divisions, many of which are recognized as international centres of excellence. Ram was one of three persons to qualify this year in oil and gas, passing with distinction. Speaking with this newspaper recently, Ram said that his project for the programme focused on the history of oil exploration in Guyana from the days of the Dutch to current day.
Among the non-core research papers he did was one on gender diversity among directors of public companies in the Caribbean and Guyana.
Ram said that it was a full-time Distance Learning programme with compulsory attendance by way of real time, interactive participation by computer.
The Attorney-at-law said, “For me, the real benefit of my participation is the learning acquired from reading dozens of books, hundreds of academic articles in a range of subject areas and participation in classes made up many nationalities of persons way younger than me.”
He added, “Hopefully I will have the opportunity to place the knowledge at the disposal of the country and to make an enhanced contribution to the national debate.
“Hopefully, too, younger Guyanese will also recognize that learning is not an age thing and within reason, everything is possible.”
