The South Essequibo Cricket Committee has suspended its Invitational T/20 cricket tournament on the Essequibo Coast due to the current inclement weather.
The competition which started with 29 teams has seen players that have represented Guyana at various levels taking part in an effort to uplift the standard of cricket in the county.
Its second edition involves teams from the four Area Committees on the Essequibo Coast; South Essequibo, Central Essequibo, North Essequibo and Pomeroon. Teams were drawn in six groups with three teams qualifying for the Super 14 knock out stage. Two matches remaining in the Super 14; Jaguar Sports Club versus Young Achievers with the winner playing Rising Stars in the Quarter final. Bush Lot Trendsetters will take on Sparwin Sports Club in the final Super 14 fixture and the winner will face Reliance Hustlers in another quarterfinal encounter.
Imam Bacchus Sports Club will battle Walton Hall Sports Club in another quarter final game and the winner will play NOC Sports Club who drew the bye to the semi final.
The competition has already seen outstanding performances from Rising Stars’ Kemol Savory and Ricardo Peters, NOC’s Kevon Boodie and Anthony Adams, Reliance Hustlers’ Narendra Madholall and Rovendra Parasram, Norwayne Fredricks and Chandi Jairam of Jaguars SC, Young Achievers’ Vishnu Murray and Avinash Persaud, Bush Lot Trendsetters’ Ravindra Mahabeer and Keith Blackman and Imam Bacchus SC duo Yogeshwar Lall and Wayne Osborne. The competition will commence as soon as the weather permits.
