The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will give each player and official of the winning men’s Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship team $100,000 each.
President of the Federation, Nigel Hinds made it known via ‘WhatsApp’ that winning the male championship for the first time in the nation’s history was an “incredible” achievement.
Hinds further noted that the money will be issued to all of the players and officials within 45 days and further revealed that the team will not attend any dinner that does NOT include any specified incentives in cash or kind.
The GABF boss was referring to a request by the Director of the National Sport Commission (NSC), Christopher Jones, to host the team but after discussion with his executives, the GABF boss noted that they had come to an agreement.
The GABF had requested that the Ministry of Social Cohesion and the Ministry of the Presidency, fund their male and female team’s participation in the CBC Championship in neighbouring Suriname which carried a budget of US$50,000. However, that request was informally declined.
