It’s going to be a battle of the Men’s Physique Titans come Sunday July 15 next when the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) brings off its Senior National Championships at the Parc Rayne Event Centre, Rahamans Turn, Houston, East Bank Demerara.
Ever since this category was introduced, it has enabled athletes who might not necessarily compete in the body building segment to show off their packages in the Men’s Physique division.
It has brought out some exciting duels and fans close to the sport would know all too well of the Yannick Grimes / Emmerson Campbell shindigs to the extent that Campbell who won twice was dethroned last year by Grimes, as a matter of fact, Campbell was only able to muster the third place last year at the Marriott Hotel.
This time around though, the Fitness 53 athlete has disclosed that it would not be a close contest this year: “Last year’s competition I wasn’t really focused on it, I just took it nonchalantly because I was just trying to peak for Mexico, but this year is different. I got third last year but I went to Barbados and I redeemed myself by beating the guy that won three months after. I don’t think there would be a battle with me and Yannick, there was never a battle.”
Noting that he was just off last year, Campbell boasted that whenever he is on, his competition does not even come close.
While it is expected that the showdown will be between these two athletes, others might very well be in the mix to upset the apple cart but that is left to be seen.
”It is not going to be a battle between Yannick and I, it’s going to be me, and then the rest of the competition, it would not even be close, I could guarantee that. But I am really looking for more to Mexico and CAC because I got a silver medal there the last time in the Dominican Republic. I’m in great shape and I am looking forward to reclaiming my men’s physique championship.”
Campbell, who started competing three years ago, noted that he is a five-time Men’s Physique champion and have won silver medals at the CAC and Darcy Beckles championships that are held annual in Barbados.
He went on to wish all the competitors the best and is looking forward to a night of fierce rivalry.
”I respect the competition and I wish everyone a safe rest of preparations and I hope everyone shows up on stage 100% so they can give the fans a great show and their monies worth.”
Meanwhile, tickets are on sale for the show at $2,500 each and can be bought at Buddy’s Gym, Space Gym, Fitness Paradise, Fitness Express, Body Alive and Fitness 53.
