The Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy (GIKMAA) has started the year on a high note and has continued on that road as the first half of the year ended with the Academy growing in numbers and as students continues to grow in confidence and ability.
From January to date, the GIKMAA has had a very successful Weapons Workshop, Coloured Belt exams and tournament. However it was at the just concluded Guyana Martial Arts Masters Association International Hall of Fame Award Ceremony where students of the Guyana International Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Academy made a heavy impact.
A total of 19 persons walked away with 21 awards in 12 categories as listed below:
Outstanding Karate Kid – Shafeer Ali, Zaheer Assan, ShakarPooran and Bhudesh Shilchand
Outstanding Students of the Year 0 – GovindRamkur
Outstanding Instructor of the Year – Kelvin Walcott
Community Spirit and Ambassador Awards – Maranda Bennett
Fighting Spirit Award – Daniel Lasely and Christian Freeman
Warrior’s Spirit Award – VikashSomwaru and Marcell Yassim
Outstanding Parent of the Year – Mitra Mohan, Nafeeza Ali and Chandrowtie Singh
Distinguished Persons Award – BishramPrashad and ChetramRamgobind
Distinguished Parents Award – Mr. Abdool Yassim and Mrs. Ermelia J. Yassim (Parents of Dr. NazimYassim)
While Grandmaster/Soke /Dr. Abdool NazimYassim received a Lifetime Achievement Bronze Award and the “SOKESHIP” Award. This is a great achievement for the Academy and my students said Dr. Nazim.
Attention will now turn to the annual Martial Arts Training Camp this month, the Suriname International tournament in August and another local competition in September. Dr. Nazim has extended congratulations to his students namely, Nirel Ramrattan, Rahul Miaram, Ronald Ramkissoon and Kapil Persaud for doing well at the just concluded National Grade Six Assessment Exams and to Nkosi Jupiter for representing Guyana well in Trinidad, recently.
