The 2018 Rainforest Water Senior National Squash Championships continued on Thursday night at the Georgetown Club courts with first round matches in the Women’s Open. Former National Champions Mary Fung – A – Fat and Ashley Khalil along with Taylor Fernandes all had straight set wins.
Mary dropped just four points in her match against Tian Edwards winning 11 – 1, 11 – 1, 11 – 2, while Ashley was just as impressive against junior player Kirsten Gomes scores being 11 – 1, 11 – 3, 11 – 1. Taylor had to work slightly harder before defeating Junior player Madison Fernandes 11 – 7, 11 – 3, 11- 2.
In the veteran Over-35 category, both Garfield Wiltshire and Brian Yong had comfortable victories.
Play continued last evening with matches in the Veteran Over-35 category, the Men’s plate followed by the last women’s quarter final match between Sarah Lewis and Abosaide Cadogan. Play in the Men’s Open quarter finals concluded the evenings matches when defending champion Alex Arjoon played Damian Da Silva, Jason Ray-Khalil was pitted against top junior player Shomari Wiltshire, former national champion Nyron Joseph came up against another former national champion Regan Pollard and in the final match, former national champion Richard Chin played former national player and current national men’s hockey coach Robert Fernandes.
All semi finals will be played this evening starting from 5:30 pm with the finals set to be held tomorrow commencing at 11:00am. All matches are scheduled for the Georgetown Club courts.

Mary Fung-A-Fat defeated Tian Edwards 11 – 1, 11 – 1, 11 – 2
Ashley Khalil beat Kirsten Gomes 11 – 1, 11 – 3, 11 – 1
Taylor Fernandes beat Madison Fernandes 11 – 7, 11 – 3, 11 – 2

Adam Alves defeated Lee Fung-A-Fat 11 – 2, 11 – 5, 11 – 2
Jason Van Dyk beat Regan Rodrigues 11 – 3, 11 – 1, 11 – 0
Men’s Veterans Over-35
Garfield Wiltshire beat Lloyd Fung-A-Fat 11 – 5, 11 – 3, 11 – 4
Brian Yong beat Tony Farnum 11 – 5, 11 – 3, 12 – 10
