Pomeroon marked 81 games to win the final of the Sun Flower Hotel and Bar dominoes competition which was contested on Sunday last at Charity, Essequibo Coast. Gold for Money placed second with 78 games while Sun Flower finished third on 69 games.
Pomeroon were led by Evan Garraway who copped the Most Valuable Player award in the final with the maximum 18 games while Linden Bowman and Leroy Edwards chalked up 17 and 15 games respectively for the second placed side.
Gold for Money won the semi final encounter with 87 games ahead of Pomeroon 79 and Mix Up 72 games. Bowman made 17 and Shawn Morgan 16 for the winners while Evan Garraway and Winston Cox scored 17 and 16 in that order for Pomeroon.
Brain Edwards and Mark Wiltshire were Mix Up’s leading players scoring 15 games each. Pomeroon received a trophy and $130,000 while Gold for Money pocketed a trophy and $40,000.
Meanwhile, Senior Organising Secretary of the Georgetown Dominoes Association (GDA) Mark Wiltshire in collaboration with Boston and James will be hosting a two-day dominoes competition starting tomorrow at Turning Point.
Entrance fee is $12,000 and the winning team will take home a trophy and $200,000, runner up a trophy and $100,000, third place a trophy and $50,000 and fourth place a trophy and $20,000. The Most Valuable Player in the finals will take home $10,000.
The tournament is open to any team and all GNDA rules will be in effect. Action gets underway at 15:30hrs and all prizes are guaranteed. Interested teams can call Wiltshire on 665 5855, Boston on 613 5016 or James 665 1235.
