The Guyana Committee of Services (GCS) has thrown their support behind the third Aliann Pompey Invitational meet which is set for Saturday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
The committee made a presentation to Aliann Pompey yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda.
Pompey, the 2002 Commonwealth Games 400m gold medalist, expressed gratitude to the members of the GCS adding that she is overwhelmed with the support and fans will be in for a treat on Saturday.
The USA based Pompey stated that corporate backing is critical for making events of such magnitude a success and she is happy to see the direction the sport has taken.
GCS executive member, Leslie Black said that the presentation was the Committee’s way of showing their appreciation and support for “one of Guyana’s best female athletes.”
The meet has attracted superstars in the track and field arena with Grenada’s Olympic and World 400metres Champion Kirani James and Guyana’s 2018 Commonwealth Games triple jump gold medalist Troy Doris competing.
James and Doris are expected to arrive shortly at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Fly Jamaica, E-Networks, Quality Plus, Banks DIH, the Ministry of Communities and SleepIn International Hotel and Casino are among the sponsors onboard so far.
Action is set to start at 15:00hrs on Saturday. Tickets cost $1000 (stands) and $5000 (VIP).
