A former soldier and a woman are among four people who are in custody in connection with the gunning down of phone card vendor, Ron Mansfield, at Westminster, West Bank Demerara.
Police reportedly seized several phone cards from the detained woman.
A source close to the investigation said that soon after her arrest the woman named the people who were involved in attack on Mansfield.
It is unclear whether investigators have established that the cards were among those that Mansfield had purchased.
Mansfield, 37, was shot dead on June 19 outside his Lot 772 Westminster, West Bank Demerara home.
His wife had told Kaieteur News that she was watching television when she heard a gunshot. She looked outside and saw her husband’s motorcycle lying on the road.
She told neighbours that she ran outside and saw Mansfield lying on the parapet outside the southern neighbour’s yard. He was unconscious but there was some blood on his shirt.
She said that she also saw someone running in a southern direction along the roadway.
Mansfield was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
His spouse is said to have told neighbours that the gunman had grabbed Mansfield’s haversack, which contained money.
However, a police official had said that there was no evidence of a robbery.
