National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohammed in collaboration with the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) will host its annual youth Olympic Day Cycling meet on Saturday for the fifth year at the inner circuit of the National Park from 09:30hrs.
Mohammed informed that the categories include BMX Boys 6-9 years (2 laps), Boys 9-12 years (2 laps), Boys 12-14 years (3 laps), Mountain Bike (5 laps) and 12-14 juniors and juveniles (10 laps).
The event is hosted in recognition of Olympic Day which was observed on June 23.
Among those outstanding in last year’s event were: Nigel Duguid in the 10-lap feature event ahead of Curtis Dey and Jason Cameron respectively. Jonathon Ramsuchit (12-14 category), Jeremiah Harrison (9-12 BMX Boys) and Lumesh Singh (6-9 Boys).
Meanwhile, the National Cycling Coach disclosed that his 42nd teach them young programme will run from July 9 to September 1 in the National Park.
The yearly programme has attracted many of the top crop of young and senior riders over the years. And this year several new talents is expected to come to the fore.
Mohammed said the programme is free. Registration can be done at the National Park or at the National Sports Commission and all the youngsters need is a working bicycle, helmet and any other protective gears.
The programme will run Monday to Friday from 09:00hrs to 11:00hrs.
