Captain of the Tropical Spring-Guyana Masters team, Lalta Gainda, expressed confidence of his team doing well in the upcoming New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) twelfth annual Independence Cup which is slated for June 29 – July 1 at Roy Wilkins Park.
Tropical Spring-Guyana is the third Guyanese Masters team that will be playing in the tournament with Regal Masters and defending champions Floodlight being the other two.
The team, which will compete in the Over-45 category, is on their second overseas outing with their first being the Orlando Cup which was held in March of this year.
Speaking with Kaieteur sport, Gainda said his team is a well balanced one and he is confident of qualifying for the final four. “We didn’t make it to the semi finals of the Orlando Cup in March, but our players have gained a lot from the competition and will be looking to capitalize this time around,” he added.
The skipper stated that his team has a number of experienced players who have played in numerous tournaments overseas so they know the conditions and will be looking to make an impact. “Apart from playing in the Orlando Cup in March, we have some players who have played in tournaments in USA and Canada so they know what to expect.”
He expects stiff challenge from Regal Masters and Floodlights but cautioned about taking other teams for granted. “We have to play as a unit, take it step by step and stick to the game plan,” stated Gainda. The tournament will also be played in the Over-40 and All stars divisions.
Tropical Spring- Guyana is being sponsored by Cricket Zone USA, Bargain Supermarket, Gain Mart, Rubis Bel Air, Incum Investment Ink and Quality Auto Works.
