Her accomplishment of being crowned Miss Earth Guyana 2018, will be one of the most exciting and beautiful chapters of her life, says Xamiera Kippins. Kippins coveted the title from five other beauties on Saturday evening at the National Cultural Centre, where the Miss Earth pageant marked its return to Guyana.
The evening began with a rousing cultural presentation followed by the introduction of the host, Joel Ghansham. Thereafter, the delegates introduced themselves and prepared for a night of intense competition in the swimwear, evening gown and Hashtag topic, segments of the competition.
Following the tallying of scores, the Top four were Anita Baker, Luann Pellew, Akisha Payne and Xamiera Kippins. These young ladies were then required to answer a final question pulled from the Miss Earth 2001 competition.
That question was, “Technology makes life very convenient but it is also being blamed for certain environmental problems. How do you propose to find a balance between technology and Earth preservation?”
Intelligently, each girl answered and was then required to display her final look to the judges.
In the end, Kippins was adjudged Miss Earth Guyana 2018, Baker was crowned Miss Earth Guyana – Fire 2018, Payne , Miss Earth Guyana – Water 2018, and Pellew , Miss Earth Guyana – Air 2018.
The pageant was judged by Mrs. Roshini Boodhoo-Persaud, Miss Lawshana Prescott, Dr. Kelsie Young, Mr. Fazil Rahaman, Miss Stephanie Persaud and Mr. Dave Lalltoo. The auditors for the event were Mr. Ian Hoyte and Mr. George DeFreitas.
Expressing glee at yet another pageantry achievement, Kippins in a Facebook post said, “Everything I have done has started with a dream and Miss Earth Guyana was no different. Of course, it was no walk in the park. The last few months had been filled with emotions, learning, friendship and growth with continuous training, rehearsals, events and community work, all the while maintaining jobs and a personal life.”
Kippins expressed gratitude to her family, friends coach, trainers, choreographers, designer and sponsors for their never-ending support.
Addressing her pageant sisters, the beauty queen added, “To my crowned sisters, I am honoured to be surrounded by such strong, smart and beautiful women. I believe that all things will work together for those who love God and have great intentions. I look forward to our year together.”
