The man accused of murdering his common law partner at their Limlair, Corentyne Village home on June 21, 2018 succumbed Sunday night.
Imran Lyte, 30, was hospitalized at the Port Mourant Hospital after he allegedly injested a poisonous substance. Lyte, prior to ingesting the poisonous substance had viciously stabbed his former common-law wife to death.
His death will serve as an open and closed case for investigators in ‘B’ Division.
Meanwhile, a post mortem examination conducted on the body of the victim, Tovonnie Simmons, by Government Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan, at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital revealed that she died from shock and haemorrhage due to multiple stab wounds about the body.
Simmons was attacked by Lyte, Thursday night, at her home in the presence of her mother and the assailant’s sister.
Reports from the police had stated that approximately 23:20 hrs, Simmons was at home with her mother Jacquelyn Henry, 55, a vendor, when Lyte arrived to discuss an issue that had occurred on Sunday, 17th June between himself and the dead woman’s brother.
It was during the discussion about the issue that an argument erupted between Lyte and Simmons. He reportedly whipped out a knife and dealt several stabs to the mother of four. In her bid to escape, she ran to the verandah and plunged over. She managed to get up from the fall and at that point began running.
Lyte, however ran after her and slit her throat.
He subsequently escaped in an easterly direction towards the backlands and reportedly ingested a poisonous substance.
Meanwhile, Simmons was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
She had sustained 12 wounds to various parts of her body. Lyte and Simmons leave to mourn their four children 8, 6 and a 3-year-old twin.
