GCF National Championships 2018… Activade Energy Drink on board as official drink, ITT set for tomorrow

Sueria Manufacturing Inc. of Eccles Industrial Area, East Bank Demerara, under their Activade Sports Drink brand has joined with the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) for its marquee event, the National Championships which pedals off tomorrow with the Individual Time Trials on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Brand Manager Selwyn Bobb yesterday handed over cases of the drink to Assistant Racing Secretary of the GCF Joseph Britton at the company’s Industrial Site Bond.

Bobb conclude that Sureia is confident that their sponsorship under the Activade brand will go a far way in assisting the athletes participating in this cycling championships. Britton extended gratitude to Sureia and Boob for their partnership with the federation to ensure that the cyclists will be adequately hydrated during the three day event.
The nation’s best cyclists will be battling for top honours and bragging rights in the senior men, masters, juniors, juveniles and ladies categories commencing with the Individual Time Trials, tomorrow.
The following day, Sunday June 24, attention will turn to the Road Race for the juveniles, juniors, masters and ladies while the following Sunday, July 1, the senior men’s Road Race would be contested.
The Time Trails for the senior men, juniors and masters would be for a distance of 12.43 miles or 20km while the ladies would do a distance of 6.21 miles or 10km. The starting and finishing point would be the Yarrowkabra Police Outpost from 09:00hrs.
The Road Race route Sunday, for the masters, juniors, juveniles and ladies will commence at Homestretch Avenue from 07:30hrs in front of the National Sports Commission, proceed East along Homestretch Avenue, right into Mandela Avenue, left at DSL into the East Bank Carriageway, South along Houston Public Road all the way to Timehri where cyclists will turn around at the end of the double road.
Return to the Linden Soesdyke Junction, make a right onto the Linden Soesdyke Highway and turn around at Long Creek before returning to the starting line at Homestretch Avenue for the finish.
After turning at Timehri, juveniles and ladies will not make the right turn onto the Linden Soesdyke Highway, they will continue on the downward journey to Homestretch Avenue for the finish. The masters and juniors will cover a distance of 80 miles (128.75km) while the juveniles and ladies will battle over 52 miles (83.69km).
The GCF has stated that junior and juvenile cyclists will not be allowed to compete at these championships without junior gears. The federation has indicated that this is UCI rule that would be enforced noting that clubs would have been encouraged to follow this rule for three years now.
The route for the senior men’s Road Race on July 1 which starts at 07:30hrs: start at Homestretch Avenue and follow the same route as the juniors and masters. The seniors however, will proceed to Mobilissa on the Linden Soesdyke Highway before returning to the starting line at Homestretch Avenue for the finish, a distance of 110 miles (177.03km).
The respective defending champions are Raynauth Jeffrey (Senior RR and ITT), Clair Fraser-Green (Ladies RR and ITT), Briton John (Junior RR), Curtis Dey (Junior ITT), David Hicks (Juvenile RR), Warren Mc Kay (Masters U-45 RR), Lear Nunes (Masters ITT), Gordon Spencer (O-45 RR).
