The West Indies Sports Complex on Robb Street has joined those individuals and business entities which is offering support of the two-week Malteenoes Cricket Academy which starts on July 23.
On Tuesday, MSC’s Treasurer Troy Lewis collected two pairs off batting gloves for the best Male and Female batters of the Academy in addition to quantity of rubber balls to be used by the younger age group students. The presentation was made by Raifeena Ganie.
The Academy caters for Male and Females between the age of 6-12 and 13-18 and runs from 09:00hrs to 15:00hrs each week day and registration fee is $3,000 and forms can be picked from the Thomas Road club after 15:00hrs any day until July 20.
Lewis thanked West Indies Sports Complex for their support of youth development and said he hoped the recipients of the gloves will go on to play International Cricket and look back to when the Sports Store provided them with gloves when were now starting to play cricket.
Ganie said Feroze Khan, the late owner of the Sports Store which is now run by his sons, played first division cricket for West Demerara and was a big supporter of Sports.
She added that West Indies Sports Complex was pleased to support the development of youth through Sports.
The Academy will include classroom and field work which will provide the tools to become Cricketers, Umpires, Scorers, Journalists and Broadcasters, all of which can provide well paid careers.
Qualified Coaches will conduct technical and physical sessions, while facilitators will talk on Education, Social Skills, Health and Hygiene Etiquette, Child Protection, Laws and History of Cricket, Umpiring and Scoring. Inculcating discipline to students will be a critical aspect of this year’s Academy. Parents are encouraged to register their Children early.
