The Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Berbice Championship, will officially kick-off tomorrow at the New Amsterdam (NA) Stelling Tarmac.
According to Coordinator Phillip Carrington, “It will be a very competitive tournament. All the players asking about it and looking forward to it.”
He further added, “It’s a great tournament, and it has come at the right time because no football is being played countrywide and nothing is being played in Berbice since New Year’s so the players will get something to play and the public will get something to look at.”
Carrington confirmed that 12 elimination matches will be staged on the opening night, with the resulting winners advancing to the round of 16 stage to join the top four finishers from last year’s edition.
The teams that have earned a direct berth to the round of 16 section are defending champ NA Kings, Mahaicony, Outsiders and East Bank Gunners.
He further revealed that 11 matchups have been confirmed thus far, with the final fixture slated to be established today.
At 19:00hrs, No. #5-A battle Young Strikers-A, while Hopetown engage Young Strikers from 19:30hrs and No. #5-B engaging Dam Boys at 20:00hrs.
In the fourth clash, Goal Rush United take aim at Soccer Ville from 20:30hrs, while Trafalgar lock horns with Tucber Stars from 21:00hrs and Rose Hall Town oppose Tucber Giants at 21:30hrs.
