A 37-year-old phone card vendor, Ron Mansfield, who people only know as ‘Ron’ was shot dead last night by a lone gunman. The shooting occurred shortly before 21:00 hours yesterday.
According to Ron’s wife, she was watching television when she heard a gunshot. She looked outside and saw her husband’s motorcycle lying on the road.
She told neighbours that she ran outside and saw her husband lying on the parapet outside the southern neighbour’s yard. He was unconscious but there was some blood on his shirt. She said that she also saw a lone individual running in a southern direction along the roadway.
One neighbour said that he heard the woman scream. Her scream brought people running from their homes. They placed him in his car that was parked under his house and rushed him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
One neighbour said that the wife said that it had to be a robbery because the gunman grabbed the haversack her husband was carrying. This haversack contained the phone cards that Ron sold. It also contained some cash.
