People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) representatives at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) are uncomfortable over the “fact” that evidence exists which suggests that GECOM data “reside elsewhere.”
The Commissioners made this known at a Press Conference held earlier this week.
It was Commissioner Bibi Shadick who related exchanges she had with GECOM Chairman, James Patterson during which the “disturbing information” was revealed.
Shadick said that on Tuesday, during a statutory meeting, the GECOM Chairman said that the breakdown of the ethnic composition of GECOM staffers, in the form of a pie chart that was published in the media, was provided to him by “a source” outside of GECOM.
Shadick said that GECOM’s Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield then informed Commissioners that the HR Manager reviewed photographs of staffers and compiled the data based on what race the photograph reflect.
The PPP/C-nominated Commissioners asked for the source documents used by the HR Manager to be provided, but this has not yet been made available. Shadick said, “At present, there is much confusion as to the source of the information, the accuracy of it and the timeline regarding its dissemination.
Patterson was contacted by this newspaper. He admitted that he told Shadick that he got “certain” information from “outside sources.” However, the Chairman was adamant that he was not talking about the pie chart. (Abena Rockcliffe-Campbell)
