Jamal Gilkes’ performance ensured that Linden Technical Institute (LTI) remained the only side from three games when they overwhelmed Christianburg Wismar Secondary 107-24 on Wednesday afternoon last while Mackenzie High and Wisburg Secondary scored their second win in three matches when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s Youth Guyana Basketball/Powerade Regional Under 19 championship continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club, Hard Court.
Today, LTI will take on New Silvercity Secondary from 14:00hrs with Harmony Secondary opposing Mackenzie High in feature play, two hours later. In another fine display of his scoring prowess Gilkes netted 39 points to total 102 in the tournament so far and has an average of 34 points per game while teammate Daniel Lee provided supported with 25 to take his tally to 57; Dillon Pellew contributed 12. For Christianburg/Wismar, Ezra Thomas netted 12 points.
Mackenzie High romped to a 56-30 win over New Silvercity Secondary, having been ahead 31-7 at half time. Again their best scorer was Leon Benjamin with 25 points and has an overall total of 73 so far at an average of 24 per game.
Yannick Tappin remained a player to watch with 19 points for a tally of 58 at an average of 19 per game; Shamar Henry chipped in with 9. Kobe Tappin continued his good form for New Silvercity with 17 points in the game.
Game three on Wednesday resulted in Wisburg gaining a 40-29 win over Harmony Secondary in the third game, as they led at half time 23-13. Jonathan Copeland continued to be Wisburg’s leading scorer with 21 points while Omar Green was the top scorer for Harmony with 9.
In games played on Tuesday, LTI defeated Mackenzie High 67-51; Gilkes had a game high 21 points, Daniel Lee 17, Raynaldo Patoir 16 and Dillon Pellew 11. Leon Benjamin also netted 21 points in the game and Yannick Tappin contributed 17 for Mackenzie High.
also on the day, New Silvercity trounced Harmony 43-24 led by Kobe Tappin with the game high 18; for Harmony Secondary, Delroy Belle netted 14.
In the third game, Wisburg were 55-37 victor’s over Christianburg/Wismar Secondary. Jonathan Copeland led the winners with 18 points and Keyon Davidson scored 17. For Christianburg/Wismar, Tremaine Browne tipped in 11 points.
