Dear Editor,
Your front page article in your June 11 edition is written with a lot of inaccuracies and is very subjective. I say that because we were a commercial operator in Guyana for over five years . This sounds like either Gerry Gouveia or Annette is either disgruntled or trying to smear the company.
Being a commercial operator in Guyana for so long I am aware of the predatory practices of Roraima Airways and Air Services. I had to use the services of both at some point while doing business in Guyana, so I am speaking from experience.
Aurora mining company probably had no choice and found it cheaper to lease its own aircraft under what is known as a “wet lease”, internationally. The means the company is operating the aircraft for its own purposes, privately, and leasing the aircraft and crew to get it done.
That is NOT considered commercial operations anywhere in the world. A similar analogy is just like renting your own bus and hiring a driver to move your own goods to the market instead of hiring a truck or taxi that was overcharging you.
This is done all the time in the USA and most other developed countries in the world. I can say that based on my aviation experience and background. I operated a flight school and charter operation in the USA and in Guyana until 2016.
