A 41-year-old man met his demise on Monday evening after he was struck down by a speeding motorcar on the Spring Garden Public Road on the Essequibo Coast.
The dead man has since been identified as Lallman Narine Sahadeo, called Mud, of Spring Garden, a community three miles north from Supenaam.
According to police reports, the accident occurred sometime around 18:30 hrs.
At the time, Sahadeo was proceeding south along the public road on his pedal cycle, when he was struck from behind by motor car PPP 6852, which was driven by a 23-year-old.
Sahadeo reportedly died on the spot as a result of severe injuries to the head, neck and left arm.
Family members are claiming that Sahadeo, after being struck from behind, ended up in a nearby trench quite a distance from the point of impact.
Relatives and neighbours told this publication that Sahadeo was just returning from the backdam when tragedy struck.
One relative recounted, “My son was on the road and he saw when this guy fly pass with all he air bag fly out… Then he ride out back and he said something dark deh on the road, so we walk up to see. We see some other boys walking coming to the scene too, and they tell we that ‘Mud’ jus ride out from here but they hear a crash… they look around and they see Mud bicycle, then they jump in the trench and they find he dead.”
In the meantime, the 23 year old driver, who had fled the scene but was later apprehended, remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
Left to mourn are Lallman Sahadeo’s wife Zaheeda and their eight-year-old daughter.
