After losing their first match to Barbados by 17 points due to nervousness, the Guyanese got rid of all the ‘nerves’ and won the remaining two games to take the three-game friendly series away to Barbados 2-1.
The games which were used as a warm-up for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships which tip off in Paramaribo, Suriname next week will see participation from both teams.
Heading into Sunday night’s final game at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, the series was level and the visitors played with intent with a reasonable and loud backing from some Barbados based Guyanese fans.
Guyana’s 18-year-old Captain Stanton Rose led from the front with 15 points inclusive of three three-pointers from five attempts, while Ray Victor netted 13 points inclusive of one three-pointer from six attempts. Orland Glasgow scored 11 points, while 19-year-old Travis Belgrave in his first game of the series swooshed eight points inclusive of one three-pointer from one attempt for Guyana.
Junior Moore (13 points) and Andre Lockhart (10 points) were the main scorers for the losing Barbados side.
At the CBC tournament in Suriname, the Guyanese Men are in Group A, with hosts and rivals Suriname, St Lucia, Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines, while Group B comprises Barbados, Bermuda, Antigua & Barbuda, Haiti and Montserrat.
