Dear Editor:
The span of time covering this Oil and Gas episode which began when the late Communist American Lady was President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana December 15, 1997 – Aug 11, 1999. According to present pronouncements, oil shall flow in 2020 thus, 22 years would have passed.
Who can explain the irony of a dyed-in-the-wool Communist sitting with an ultra Capitalist Octopus such as EXXONMOBIL and coming up with such ostentation in this diametric scenario? What do they have in common when we remember the McCarthy Anti –Communist era of the 50’s? Can anyone see an invisible silver thread connecting these two antagonists? Who remembers the visit of Dr. Cheddi Jagan meeting with President John F. Kennedy and the controversy generated thereby?
The foreign-born citizens are prohibited from being elected President of the USA. As precedent shows, this prohibition does not apply in Guyana but there is a related corollary discriminating against born Guyanese.
Seeing the genesis of the birth of EXXONMOBIL in Guyana, the depth and breadth of this imposition and dispossession for 40 years has to be unprecedented anywhere in the world. We can talk about this for 40 years.
The present value of Guyana’s currency is not counting for much now. What view has anyone of values on both sides in 40 years? In this light, the legacy of the treachery should be seen by all.
We are now looking at a 62-year blight on our Nation. This is intolerable and must be dealt with free from the “giveaway” syndrome.
